Saturday Night Live had plenty of political material to work with for this week’s cold open.

Kanye West‘s Oval Office monologue, though,  proved just too tempting for the SNL writers, who used the first minutes of the show to skewer West’s screed.

The open also marked the return of Alec Baldwin as Donald Trump.

“Have I lost anyone so far?” SNL’s West — as played by Chris Redd — asked shortly after going headlong into his incoherent, conspiracy theory-ridden word salad,  prompting members of the media to raise their hand.

Much of the sketch, though,  was devoted to revealing what Trump and other others in the room were really thinking during West’s rant.

“He doesn’t stop. He doesn’t listen to anyone but himself. Who does he remind me of?”  Trump’s inner voice says.

“Oh my God, he’s black me,” the inner voice Trump says at another moment.

At one point, SNL West also called himself a stable genius, a nod to the real-live Trump’s infamous claim.

“I love you, Kanye,” Baldwin’s Trump says at the end after the pair hug post-rant. “We’ve got a lot more in common than people know: We’re both geniuses, we’re both married to beautiful women, and we’ve both definitely been recorded saying the n-word.”
