Michael Avenatti ‘Exploring’ Presidential Run
The 2020 presidential race may see a political newcomer: Michael Avenatti.
The famed lawyer for porn actress Stormy Daniels visited Iowa Thursday, where he said he’s mulling the idea.
“I’m exploring a run for the presidency of the United States, and I wanted to come to Iowa and listen to people and learn about some issues that are facing the citizens of Iowa and do my homework,” he told the Des Moines Register.
Avenatti, a notorious opponent of President Donald Trump‘s in his fight to release Daniels from a pricey non-disclosure agreement regarding her alleged affair with Trump, maintained that his consideration of a run was not motivated by self-interest.
“I would never think to come to Iowa in order to use the state or the people of the state to raise my profile,” he said to the outlet. “And obviously if I do this, then I intend to work hard and I know that ultimately the trust of the citizens of Iowa is going to have to be earned.”
On Friday, the attorney will appear with two candidates already planning to run, Rep. John Delaney (D-MD) and Andrew Yang, an entrepreneur. Also in attendance will be potential candidate Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH). In addition, Avenatti is set to be the keynote speaker at an event for the County Iowa Democratic Elected Officials Association within the coming weeks.
“I would like to think people would take me seriously,” he told the Register. “And I think, hopefully, the message that I deliver tomorrow night will be well received by Iowa Democrats.”
